Cape Perpetua campground is located on the central Oregon coast two miles south of Yachats. Trails from the campground provide access to the scenic rocky coastline as well as to hikes through old-growth forest.

The Cape Perpetua Campground is no-frills, but it makes an excellent home base for exploring one of the most diverse and dramatic sections of the Oregon Coast. Unlike many coastal campgrounds, it isn’t located right beside the ocean, and this area doesn’t have sandy beaches. Instead, the campground is tucked into the forest within the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area, surrounded by towering evergreens and dense coastal vegetation.

Some campsites offer a bit of privacy, but most are fairly open. A limited number of sites are available first-come, first-served, while the remaining sites can be reserved in advance.

Cape Creek runs right alongside the campground, and many of the campsites sit close enough to the water that you can fall asleep to the sound of it moving through the trees.

One of the biggest advantages of staying here is direct access to trails, which lead directly from the campground to the Cape Perpetua Visitor Center. From there, short paved trails take you to some of the most dramatic sections of coastline in the area, including Devil’s Churn, Spouting Horn, and Thor’s Well. A visitors center has exhibits that highlight the cultural and natural history of this unique area.

The inland trails are just as rewarding. A web of paths winds through old-growth coastal forest, with massive trees, mossy ground, and the kind of quiet that makes you want to linger. This scenic area protects some of the best remaining old-growth forest on the Oregon Coast, and the trail system stretches for more than 20 miles, offering everything from short walks to longer, more challenging hikes.
