With a sturdy low-base design, the FireMaple FMS-125 remote canister stove offers powerful performance and three large pot supports to accommodate various cookware.

The FireMaple FMS-125 PRO is a remote canister stove that prioritizes stability, efficiency, and ease of use. Built with stainless steel construction, it connects to an isobutane fuel canister via a flexible fuel hose, keeping the fuel source separate from the burner.

I prefer the design of this stove over standard larger two-burner camp stoves when I’m camping solo due to the small amount of space it takes up. I often use a skillet and 1-2 liter pots, and on smaller isobutane canister stoves, I have to be cautious to keep them from tipping. The larger size of this stove eliminates that concern, providing a much more stable cooking surface. I also prefer that the stove sits separately from the fuel canister, making it easier to cook while sitting.

Design & Stability

One of the standout features of the FMS-125 is its low-profile base, which provides a sturdy platform for cooking. The three large pot supports include anti-slip grips, ensuring cookware stays secure while cooking. These supports fold down for compact storage, making the stove convenient to pack. While it’s bulkier than most ultralight backpacking stoves, it’s a great option for camping trips where weight isn’t the top priority.

Performance & Usability

• The stove’s simple fold-out leg design makes setup quick and hassle-free.
• The piezo igniter provides an easy and reliable spark for ignition, eliminating the need for using a lighter. To start the stove, I turn the fuel on just until I can hear the gas, then I push the igniter.
• A wind-resistant energy plate on the outside of the burner helps it maintain performance in breezy conditions. In windier conditions, the remote canister design allows for the use of a windscreen around the stove burner, which improves efficiency by further protecting the flame from wind and also enhances safety by keeping the canister away from the heat.
• In cold weather, remote canister stoves allow for turning the fuel canister upside down to force liquid through the fuel line. This can also be helpful when the canister is almost empty.

Heat Output

The FMS-125 features a 3,240-watt heat output, which is a measure of how much power the stove generates for cooking. This is equivalent to approximately 11,050 BTU (British Thermal Units) per hour, a common unit of measurement for heat output in stoves. Most ultralight backpacking stoves range from 2,000 to 3,000 watts, prioritizing fuel efficiency over power. The adjustable flame control on this stove makes it great for tasks like frying, sauteing, as well as boiling water.

Final Thoughts

I primarily use the FireMaple FMS-125 PRO for camping, where its simplicity, stability, and power excel. Although it’s not my first choice for backpacking because of its size and weight, it’s an excellent option for campers seeking a reliable, stable, and user-friendly stove.
