REI Flash Shade Hoodie

New for 2026, this sun hoodie from REI is an ultralight layer designed for warm-weather hikes, offering built-in UPF 50+ sun protection without sacrificing breathability. The fabric has an open, mesh-like weave that allows heat to escape, making it more comfortable than many sun hoodies in higher temps. It has a flattering fit that’s not too boxy or too tight, along with raglan sleeves for better mobility and comfort through the shoulders and underarms. Thoughtful details — like extended neck coverage, a ponytail-compatible hood, and longer sleeves with thumb holes — add extra sun protection where it counts.

REI Sahara Shade Long-Sleeve T-Shirt

The Sahara Shade top is made with UPF 50+ performance fabric, offering excellent sun protection while maintaining a loose, comfortable fit. I love the shorter length since most t-shirts tend to run too long on me, yet the sleeves—with thumb loops—are long enough to cover my hands. The overall fit is fantastic—neither too tight nor too loose—allowing for great freedom of movement, which I really appreciate.

REI Magma Down Jacket

The REI Magma Down Jacket uses 850-fill-power down to create a warm, lightweight, and very comfortable jacket that’s easy to stash in your pack. It’s a full-featured down jacket, with details not always found on similar lightweight options, including a draft collar that wraps around your neck to help seal in warmth, an adjustable hood, and a chest pocket that’s perfectly sized for carrying a smartphone. The overall fit works especially well for me, making this my favorite down jacket for backpacking.

REI XeroCloud 3L Rain Jacket

The REI XeroCloud 3L Rain Jacket combines soft, stretchy fabric with a durable 3-layer waterproof design, making it a comfortable (and stylish) option for staying dry. I’ve been wearing it on rainy walks and hikes over the past month, and so far it hasn’t wetted out – even in steady rain. The fabric is soft and stretchy, without the slick feel of a typical rain jacket, and it’s comfortable to wear. Extra features include pit zips for ventilation, a chest pocket that’s handy for holding a smartphone, plus two zippered hand pockets and an adjustable hood. When not in use, the jacket stuffs into the left-hand pocket, which makes it easy to stash in my pack.

REI Campwell Parka

The REI Campwell Parka is an extremely warm insulated layer for the coldest conditions in the Pacific Northwest. I like to go on outdoor adventures year round, including hiking and camping at the coast in the winter. When I’m hiking, I don’t need something as warm as this parka. But when I’m relaxing at camp in the mornings and evenings, I need an insulated layer that will keep me warm without needing to wear multiple layers. I recently wore this parka on a winter camping trip and it made a big difference in my comfort level. I was able to stay out longer instead of retreating to my sleeping bag to get warm.
