Review: Meat Shredz Pulled Pork
Do you need a quick source of protein for hiking and backpacking? Meat Shredz Pulled Pork is a new favorite of mine on the trail. I like it so much that I created a new recipe for backpacking.
My review policy
Meat Shredz sent me this pulled pork to test and review. Regardless, I’m under no obligation to give it a favorable review. As an independent gear reviewer, my policy is to review only items that I have used on multiple backpacking or camping trips and that I feel are quality products worthy of recommending. If I don’t like a product, I send it back and don’t review or recommend it.
What is Meat Shredz Pulled Pork?
And more importantly, can a shelf-stable product that’s good for hiking and backpacking live up to the flavor of traditional pulled pork? I think that it’s a good source of protein (10 grams per serving) that tastes great and is more versatile than traditional beef jerky.
The process for creating the flavor and texture of this product includes marinating overnight, then slow cooking before hand pulling all fat and removing the moisture for packing.
I try not to eat anything that has MSG, artificial flavors or preservatives, so I was excited to see that this pork is all natural, without any ingredients that I prefer to avoid.
Black Pepper Sage Ingredients: Pork, Soy Sauce, Honey, Sugar, Black Pepper, Garlic Powder, Salt, Thyme, Sage, Parsley, Coriander, Celery Powder
Spicy Sriracha Ingredients: Pork, Soy Sauce, Honey, Sugar, Black Pepper, Salt, Red Pepper, Garlic, Vinegar Powder, Citric Acid, Soybean Oil, Parsley Flakes, Celery Powder
Recipe ideas
The texture of the pork is transformed when adding moisture to it, making it very similar to pulled pork that hasn’t been dried. Add it to ramen, soups, or try one of these ideas:
Pulled Pork Burrito or Slider: add BBQ sauce to the pulled pork and wrap it up in a tortilla or place on a bun with shredded cabbage.

Mac & Cheese with Pulled Pork: This is my favorite way to enjoy it! Check out the backpacking recipe I created to use with this product.
