The REI XeroCloud 3L Rain Jacket combines soft, stretchy fabric with a durable 3-layer waterproof design, making it a comfortable (and stylish) option for staying dry.

I’ve been wearing the REI XeroCloud 3L Rain Jacket on rainy walks and hikes over the past month, and so far it hasn’t wetted out – even in steady rain. The fabric is soft and stretchy, without the slick feel of a typical rain jacket, and it’s comfortable to wear. On me, the fit is relaxed without being baggy, with plenty of room to wear a mid-layer under it without feeling cramped.

Extra features include pit zips for ventilation, a chest pocket that’s handy for holding a smartphone, plus two zippered hand pockets and an adjustable hood. When not in use, the jacket stuffs into the left-hand pocket, which makes it easy to stash in my pack.

For ventilation, the pit zips are easy to open when you start to overheat, and the hand pockets have mesh backings that help with airflow when unzipped. The adjustable hood offers good coverage, and the hook-and-loop cuffs on the sleeves and drawcord at the hem help seal out wind and rain.

I can’t speak for the long-term durability yet, but it feels like a quality-made product. Regardless, I’ll update this post after I’ve been able to use it on additional rainy hikes over the next couple of months.

Overall, it’s a solid rain jacket – comfortable, protective, and thoughtfully designed. Not the lightest or most minimal option out there, but it works well in wet weather and doesn’t feel like overkill for everyday use. Plus it looks good!
