On the south side of Mount St. Helens, take an easy hike to June Lake with a waterfall spilling into it. Or if you like scrambling, continue to the Loowit Trail and climb over large lava boulders to Chocolate Falls.
On this four day trip at Mount Adams, we camped at Killen Creek, explored the spectacular scenery at High Camp, and hiked to Foggy Flat.
This was a two night backpacking trip during peak wildflowers at Mount St. Helens, and the first trip for me where photography was the main focus (pun intended!).
South Coldwater Ridge at Mount St. Helens is in the former blast zone, with evidence from the 1980 eruption visible from the trail, including downed trees and twisted logging equipment from that fateful day.
The low elevation forested canyons of Trapper Creek Wilderness provide an easy getaway for relaxing backpacking trips.
Trapper Creek Wilderness, located in Southwest Washington near the Wind River, includes around 25 miles of trails in old-growth Douglas-fir forests.
This loop in Beacon Rock State Park combines multiple trails for a quiet hike in the forest next to Hardy Creek.
Cape Horn is located on the Columbia River near the town of Washougal – and offers outstanding views of the Columbia River from the trails.
This longer loop to Silver Star Mountain takes the Tarbell and Sturgeon Rock trails to the summit, then returns via the Grouse Vista trail.
