Location: Columbia River Gorge, Oregon
Distance: 8 miles
Elevation gain: 2,400 ft.
We started at Wahkeena Falls and took the Wahkeena/Multnomah junction over to the Devils Rest trailhead. We weren’t sure when we started that we’d be able to go all the way, but decided to give it a try… this is the most elevation gain we’ve done on a hike and 8 miles is a lot for us. The trail is fairly steep at first and then levels out on a high ridge with great views past the Columbia River over to Washington’s Mount St. Helens and Mount Adams, as well as Silver Star Mountain and a lot of the western gorge. Along the route, you pass through a burn area with snags still standing. At the Devils Rest summit there are no views and instead there is a strange collection of large moss covered boulders.
