hike: Klickitat River Trail

The Klickitat River Trail can be a good option for dry conditions during the rainy season. Located near Lyle, Washington, this area receives less rain than the western side of the Gorge.

We started our hike at the Fisher Hill trailhead, just past the bridges that cross the river about 1.7 miles north of Lyle. We hiked a total of about 7 miles and the trail is mostly flat so there’s minimal elevation gain.

In the spring, this trail looks quite different, with green hills and wildflowers. For more info about this hike, including a trail map and hike stats, view my trip report from May 2015.

Bald eagles congregate here in January and February to take advantage of winter salmon runs. We saw one bald eagle and a few people catching salmon while we were there.
