Distance: 3.3 miles roundtrip
Elevation gain: 900 ft.
Location: Mount Rainier National Park
One of the most popular trails at Mount Rainier located directly outside of the Paradise Visitor Center, this hike has wildflowers in grand profusion. On this day, Mount Rainier initially was visible, but on the way up, it became hidden in fog and clouds. We had intended to do the entire Skyline loop to Panorama Point, but due to the conditions and the hundreds of others we were on the trail with, we turned around and completed the shorter Alta Vista loop.
The wildflowers were at peak bloom, with magenta paintbrush, lupines, western masque flower and many others in fine display in the many meadows around this area.
