To kick off the New Year, we set out for a snowshoe adventure at Bennett Pass, eager to take in the sweeping winter views. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by a stunning sight—Mount Hood standing tall under a brilliant blue sky, just across from the parking lot.

The surrounding lowlands, including the Hood River Valley, were completely blanketed in a thick layer of fog, creating a dramatic contrast between the clear mountain air above and the misty world below.

We followed the trail toward the Terrible Traverse, a section known for its exposure and steep drop-offs. Despite its intimidating name, the conditions were manageable, and we navigated the stretch with ease. From there, we decided to turn around and retrace our steps, allowing us to soak in the breathtaking scenery once again.

Along the way, Mount Hood remained a striking presence right in front of us, its snow-covered slopes glowing in the winter sunlight. In the distance, we could also make out Mount Jefferson, its peak rising above the horizon. The crisp mountain air, untouched snow, and expansive views made for an incredible start to the year.

This was my first time snowshoeing at Bennett Pass, and I was thoroughly impressed by the scenery and the peacefulness of the trail. With such rewarding views and relatively easy terrain, I can see why this spot is a favorite for winter exploration—I’ll definitely be back!
