I didn’t think I’d get a chance to go here this year due to a wildfire, but parts of the area reopened just in time to see this subalpine splendor in brilliant fall color.
I’ve hiked around Bald Mountain several times on the way to McNeal Point, but this is the first time I did the hike from the PCT at Lolo Pass and went to the summit of Bald Mountain.
Herman Creek is less visited than most areas on the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge. With several trail options, it’s a great place for a cloudy day.
Saddle Mountain is located in Oregon’s Coast Range and big views from the summit. In June, wildflowers cover slopes next to the trail.

This loop hike starts at the Wahkeena Falls trailhead, then takes the Angels Rest Trail to Wahkeena Spring and on to Angels Rest and up to Devils Rest.
The hike up to the summit of Hamilton Mountain offers many rewards: waterfalls and streams, interesting rock formations, and sweeping views of the Columbia River Gorge.
Spring is my favorite time of year to hike in the Columbia River Gorge. The waterfalls and streams are running full (especially with the amount of rain we’ve had this year!), and everything is super green.
Hug Point State Recreation Area, located five miles south of Cannon Beach, has geological and historical features, including a seasonal waterfall, an old stagecoach road, and several caves carved into the sandstone cliffs by erosion.
