Shuttle hike on the Clackamas River Trail: Fish Creek to Indian Henry trailhead
The Harts Cove trail heads 900 feet down through coastal forest to a large, open grassy meadow with views of Harts Cove and Chitwood Falls.
The Indian Racetrack was used by native tribes for hundreds of years. They gathered here in the summer to hunt, forage huckleberries, and race horses in the open meadow. Continue to the Red Mountain Lookout for panoramic views of the Cascades.
This is a great conditioning hike, with a lot of elevation gain that isn’t too difficult. May is a good time to see rhododendrons and bear grass in bloom.
