This is a great conditioning hike that starts at the Wahkeena trailhead, goes up to Wahkeena Springs, over to Angels Rest, then up to Devils Rest before heading back down to the Vista Point Trail and finally, returning to the Wahkeena Trail and the trailhead.

Ever since the Eagle Creek Fire broke out in September 2017, most of the trails on the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge have been closed. When the trails from Angels Rest to Multnomah Falls recently reopened after restoration work, I was anxious to see how one of my favorite loop hikes fared.

This loop hike starts at the Wahkeena Falls trailhead, then takes the Angels Rest Trail to Wahkeena Spring and on to Angels Rest and up to Devils Rest.

Spring is my favorite time of year to hike in the Columbia River Gorge. The waterfalls and streams are running full (especially with the amount of rain we’ve had this year!), and everything is super green.

Starting at the Wahkeena Falls trailhead, we hiked up to the source of Wahkeena Creek, a spring that comes up out of the ground and then cascades down the hillside as a creek.

Right after parking in a large lot right off the old Columbia River Highway, you can see the falls and a small bridge. The water runs all the way from the top of the mountain from springs that come directly out of the ground at the top.
