In the spring, bright green new growth on alders and shrubs mix with woodland wildflowers lining the trail at Gales Creek.
Hike in next to Pamelia Creek, past popular Pamelia Lake and up to Hunts Cove to setup camp at Hanks or Hunts Lakes. Access the Pacific Crest Trail via the Old Hunts Cove Trail for outstanding views of Mount Jefferson.
This was a two night backpacking trip during peak wildflowers at Mount St. Helens, and the first trip for me where photography was the main focus (pun intended!).
On this two night trip, we camped near Snowgrass Flat and did a day hike to Goat Lake where wildflowers were in abundance and the lake was completely melted out.
Hike though the blast zone at Mount St. Helens to Harry’s Ridge to see the area’s remarkable recovery since the 1980 eruption.
Silver Star Mountain, located in the Yacolt Burn area, is filled with summer wildflowers and includes panoramic views of the Cascades from the summit.
Saddle Mountain, located 12 miles east of the Oregon coast, offers panoramic views from the summit stretching from Mount Rainier to Mount Hood to the Columbia River and the Oregon coastline. In June, open meadows are filled with wildflowers, several of which are endemic to this area.
