This is a great year for wildflowers on Silver Star Mountain! We took the Grouse Vista trailhead from the south side of Silver Star. The trail is steep, with large gravel and rocks for most of the way.

The Salmon River begins on Mount Hood, and winds through the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness before it joins the Sandy River. This hike goes through old-growth forest next to the river, climbing to a viewpoint about 600 feet above it.

This is a short and easy hike near the Steel Visitor’s Center. The wildflowers were much earlier this year, so there weren’t as many as there usually would be in late July or early August.

Catherine Creek is located east of the Cascade Mountains on the Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge. With open grasslands, ponderosa pine, and oak woodlands, the scenery is quite different from the western side of the Cascades.

Jefferson Park is a remarkable subalpine meadow and lake-filled basin at the base of Mount Jefferson. The Whitewater Trail provides one of the shortest and easiest routes to this premier area.
