The Himali Monsoon Hardshell Jacket is a four-season shell designed to handle a wide range of weather conditions, from steady rain to snow and shifting conditions.

This is the jacket I reach for when I want solid protection from rain on the trail, especially when I’ll be hiking in steady rain for extended periods.

Most of my use for this jacket has been in colder, wet Pacific Northwest weather, where rain and wind tend to linger and conditions change throughout the day. What stands out most is how consistently it handles those conditions. It’s more protective than a standard rain jacket, and it stays comfortable even during long stretches outside in the rain.

What I Like about the Monsoon

Fit & Fabric

One of the things I’ve liked most about this jacket is how streamlined the fit is without being either too tight or too boxy. And I like how it layers easily without feeling bulky or restrictive.

The hood has multiple adjustment points that make it easy to dial in the fit, with both front cinches and a rear adjustment system that let me fine-tune how it sits depending on conditions. Once adjusted, it stays in place well in wind and rain, and the structured brim does a good job of keeping rain out of my eyes.

The fabric has a softer, quieter feel than most rain jackets, both inside and out. I really like that it avoids the stiff, crinkly texture, and it stays comfortable over the course of a full day outside.

Features & Performance

Ventilation has been one of the most useful parts of this jacket. The two-way front zipper is especially helpful because it lets me dump heat without fully opening the jacket — the top stays secured, so it still sits properly on the shoulders.

On a recent hike, I started warming up and unzipped it from the bottom about halfway. It made a noticeable difference right away without needing to stop or adjust anything else. Pit zips add another option when effort increases, and together they make it easy to regulate temperature while staying moving.

The exterior pockets are oversized compared to most jackets, which makes them easy to use for gloves or small items without feeling tight or overstuffed. The interior zip pocket has been useful for keeping my phone protected while still staying easily accessible, especially when I don’t want to stop and dig into a pack.

After wearing on multiple heavy rain days, this jacket has performed very well, with no wetting out like I typically experience with other rain jackets after extended exposure. As I get more experience with it over time, I’ll update this review.
